Kinesis Keyboard Review

So, I've been trying out this new Kinesis Evolution ergonomic keyboard lately. The arm mount is very robust and durrable, but it dosn't raise up very high, which means if you want to make the keyboard higher, you have to raise it up on the arm assembly, and scoot in under it. Basically with the keyboard tray between your legs. It would have been better for them to avoid the flat metal bit and to go with longer arms attatching at the edge of the desk. Ah, the problems that people with long legs have to deal with. I swear, that to be able to sit propperly, and ergonomically, i have to raise my chair almost to it's maximum height, and then there are no keyboard trays which can raise my keyboard to the proper height. Gah. whatever. I'm going to return it.

But on the other hand, the keyboard itself is absolue bliss. I can sit back in my chair, arms in the resting position on my arm rests, and my hands are perfectly poised over the keyboard. Wrist rotation is spot on as well. Each half of the keyboard is angled such that my wrist dosnt' have to twist at all.

The touch pads are connvinent, but due to windows, you can't adjust the sensitivity of each pad. You see, I keep a regular mouse plugged in and on the flat portion between the halves of the keyboard, and it works perfectly. But sensitivity is configured for all mice on the system at the same time. Doh! Oh well. For some reason, only on the right hand touchpad, if you rub your finger along the right edge of the pad, it's the same as the scrollwheel. But it dosn't work on the left hand touchpad, nor for horizontal scrolling. And there is no configuration for it either, and no driver. :(

In the end, the keyboard is rather expensive, and I need the cash for some other things. It's going back to Kinisis as soon as I can manage to remove the keyboard tray from my desk. I highly recommend the whole thing to someone who wants a good ergonomic keyboard. Too bad it costs so much.
